Topics: The Legacies of Ahmed Kathrada and Wangari Maathai
Topics and Guests: Today AfricaNow! begins with a tribute to South African liberation icon and public servant Ahmed Kathrada. As you are aware, Ahmed Kathrada joined the ancestors yesterday March 28. Since early this March Mr. Kathrada had been in hospital due to blood clotting in his brain. He was laid to rest today in Johannesburg. Featured is a conversation with Mr. Kathrada on AfricaNow! on April 20, 2011.
As we come to the end of Women’s History Month, AfricaNow! highlights the legacy of Dr. Wangari Maathai, the founder of the Green Belt Movement of Kenya, the first environmentalist and first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize. On April 1 Wangari Maathai—who joined the ancestors on September 25, 2011—would have been 77 years old. The show presents a conversation between WPFW’s Public Affairs Director Gloria Minott and Dr. Maathai on October 7, 2008.
